Detail of the "quilting" effect


I was commissioned to do a piece at the end of last year...someone had seen an earlier piece I had done and wanted something similar to that. I had been thinking for some time now to work on wood board...so I decided that now was the time. When I got the board home I looked at the grain of the wood on the board and felt that it kind of "presented" itself to me as already having an essence of water and I shouldn't cover up that aspect but work with it...what we call in the art world of having an "epiphany"...so I laid water like colors down within the grain, in a 1 to 5 color scheme and the result was what you see here. A marriage of the two of us (nature: wood and man: me) working together for the final result.
